Artist's Statement

Much of my work is influenced by a series of trips to China, the Pembrokshire coastline, the Scottish Highlands and the English Countryside, in particular the lake District. I am
A lot of my most recent work is influenced by several visits to China. I am inspired by Chinese architecture, structures, patterns and decorative features. I am also influenced by the Canadian wilderness and the characteristic artwork of the Inuits. Closer to home I am influenced by the Pembrokehsire coastline, the Highlands of Scotland and the English countryside, in particular, the Lake District.  I am attracted to rough and weathered textured surfaces, wrought iron work and tree bark and I use texture as a feature in most of my work. I have an interest in many forms of textile art and embroidery. I like to incorporate hand and machine embroidery, other craft techniques such as knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, quilting and multimedia techniques in my work creating pieces of wall art, bags, cards and brooches.  I mostly use natural fibres and enjoy dyeing and printing, distressing and layering to achieve the desired effect.
