I retired early from primary school teaching and spent the next 4 years working part-time in the Adult Education sector for Lancashire County teaching Information Technology. During that time I undertook 2 City and Guilds Courses as a distance learner. One was Creative Embroidery and the other Creative Sketchbooks.
I am a member of the Embroiderers' Guild and am currently the Vice Chairman for the North West Region and Chairman of Blackpool Branch. I am also an on-line tutor for the School of Stitched textiles teaching City and Guilds Creative Computing into Stitched Textiles.
I recently brought out my own CD called 'From Design to Stitch' – an introduction to using a graphics program for beginners for designing stitched pieces of work.
A lot of my most recent work is influenced by several visits to China. I am inspired by Chinese architecture, structures, patterns and decorative features. I have an interest in many forms of textile art and embroidery. I like to incorporate hand and machine embroidery and multimedia techniques in my work. |
